The "Goose"

by Maria Erickson, Staff Writer

July_30_Feature_Car_PosterThis week’s feature car of the week is a new comer to ACCS.  Well, the car is, but her owners have been coming as spectators for over two years now.  They were both at their first ACCS show on Saturday when the judges saw it.  The “Goose” as she is referred to, is a 1931 Ford Coupe owned by Chris and Bob Young of Andover.  They found her on the internet on Auto trader’s .com.  They went all the Salem South Carolina to pick it up on Tuesday and trailered it nonstop until they got it home as they were concerned about leaving it on the flatbed while they slept at a hotel.  When you see it, you will understand their concern.  Chris and Bob had been looking for just the right car for about 6 mos.  Every time they found a car, and contacted the owner, and got the paperwork together from the bank, the car would be sold.  Undaunted, they continued their quest until they found the “Goose”.  It was named this by the former owner and they decided the name would stick.  The owner’s health failing, he decided it was time to move the car to owners who would take care of his car and love it.  He found that in Chris and Bob…..and Chris and Bob made lifetime friends in them as well.  Bob owned a 1985 Corvette prior to this one.  When I asked him which of the two his favorite was, he said by FAR the Goose!!!  “There is nothing like owning a street rod.”  I asked him what he paid for it….he just smiled and said, “Let’s just put it this way…I was just offered $10,000 more than I paid for it”.  This made me laugh aloud.  That tells me he got it for a very fair price!!  Congrats Chris and Bob on being the feature car of the week.  And welcome to the ACCS family!!
