Monster, Incorporated
article by Maria Erickson

Feature_Car_Poster_July_26To look at father Keith and son Ryan Flecks “Bahama Blue” 1968 Chevelle SS, is to understand why the judges chose this car.  It is more than a muscle car….it is a MONSTER of a car.  Kevin purchased the car in 2002 as a father/son project.  I personally don’t know which is more striking - the shade of blue, the white ghost flames or the engine!  Keith and Ryan began the nearly frame up restoration in 2003 and with the assistance of most of their friends, including Mom (Fonda), they were able to complete this beauty.

It was no surprise to hear from Ryan that this was the third engine they have gone through, one of them through "no fault of his own".  It was truly a blast to interview these two gentlemen.  You could see the close bond that father and son has.  In a world where son’s are quick to “show the old man” how smart they are, I was so impressed at the respect and honor that Ryan was quick to give to his dad; although Keith was very quick to give the credit for the car to Ryan. However, both do give most of the credit to Ryan’s mom Fonda.  “She ordered the parts, put up with the mess, with us, with our buddies, adjusted our attitudes when necessary and fed us all.  She was our BEST support throughout the restoration process”.

Keith and Ryan had a chance to sell the car, but turned it down.  Although Keith paid $10,000 for the car, they have $50,000 into it.  Keith has had about 50 classics in his past and Ryan has had a few less, however, when asked of all of their cars which was their favorite, without batting an eye Ryan stated,  "This 68 Chevelle without a doubt."  Keith however, spoke thoughtfully of a 1956 Chevy from the past.  I guess once you‘ve had that many, there is bound to be a car that sticks in your heart.  Well, guys, now that I am an honorary “Good Ole’ Boy” I think this car will stick in my heart as well.  Make sure you don’t miss viewing this Monster this weekend.  You won’t be sorry you did!
